01 / FINDING

What the study reports

Kim and colleagues extend internal struts into the resonant mass. This geometry helps separate effective stiffness from effective mass, offering more control over bandgap boundaries. The paper combines a lumped model, finite-element Bloch analysis and experimental transmission measurements. A filter assembled from two cell types separates multiple input frequencies. [1]

02 / BOUNDARY

What this does not establish

A bandgap in a periodic structure is not automatically a damping benefit in any attached host. The reported transmission tests do not establish performance in a different structure, material or boundary condition.

03 / INTERPRETATION

Our engineering reading

The design expands geometric tuning options. Application decisions still require a finite-system model and measurements of the actual coupled assembly.

Editorial interpretation; not an additional measured result.
