What the study reports
The design adapts memristor-array addressing to a programmable metasurface. Snapback selectors based on VO₂ reduce currents through unintended paths, while modular row–column tiling preserves individual pixel addressing. The authors demonstrate independent phase control in two dimensions and retained THz beam steering. [1]
What this does not establish
Abstract-level assessment of a peer-reviewed accepted early article, subject to further editing. Array yield, endurance, switching energy and quantitative crosstalk were not evaluated. An optical-frequency implementation is proposed as a direction rather than demonstrated here.
Our engineering reading
Our interpretation is that electrical addressing is a central scaling constraint alongside electromagnetic unit-cell design. Practical scalability requires measured system-level power and reliability.
