What the study reports
This review brings together metamaterial approaches to fluid–structure interaction, flow-induced acoustics and wave control. It discusses engineered surfaces and subsurfaces, including phononic structures, resonators and porous interfaces, across different flow regimes. [1]
What this does not establish
A review synthesizes prior studies; it is not a new experiment demonstrating every proposed application. Flow conditions, interface coupling and the distinction between gases and liquids affect whether a mechanism transfers to a particular system.
Our engineering reading
The field connects elasticity, acoustics and fluid mechanics. For engineering decisions, begin with the flow regime and coupled interface problem, then assess the underlying study rather than treating the review’s application outlook as validation.
