What the study reports
A metasurface made from 3R-MoS₂ generates photon pairs through spontaneous parametric downconversion. Its nanoresonators support quasi-bound states in the continuum. The authors report a twentyfold increase in generation rate relative to an unstructured film. [1]
What this does not establish
The enhancement is relative to the stated reference sample, not to every existing quantum light source. A higher pair rate does not by itself establish entanglement fidelity, a complete integrated system or a practical quantum-computing advantage.
Our engineering reading
The result supports resonant engineering of compact nonlinear light sources. Useful comparisons also need collection efficiency, noise, pump conditions and the properties of the generated quantum state.
